The Evolution of English

When combining native and non-native speakers, English is the most spoken language across the globe. It is the language of science, information technology, aviation and tourism. English is the native language of more than 75 countries including the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada and The United States of America.

In countries where there are many different languages, such as India where there are 24, English is used as the common language to communicate.

But where did the English language come from? How has it evolved? Why is it so popular?

When Latin disappeared as a spoken language it left behind the languages that we know today as French, Spanish and Italian. But the English language is a result of the many invasions over hundreds of years.

Below is a brief history of the English language after the Roman Empire in Britain ended.
